How to use a SLR camera, artistic composition, the developing of black and white film, use of an enlarger to make photographs, and history of photography will be introduced. Assignments include creative use of camera controls, contrasting light situations, portraits and individual selection of subject matter. Lectures, worksheets, tests, written research, criticism and analysis of final work will be incorporated throughout the semester. Students are required to keep a binder of all work to review at the end of the course. Ownership of a 35mm SLR camera is recommended (see Ms. O’Donnell if you have questions.)
